PREPARATION AND APPLICATION
|
Surface Preparation:
Supporting surfaces must be structurally sound, solid, free of movement and well bonded. Clean any loose aggregate, dust or dirt. Contaminants that could affect penetration and bond should be removed unless the size and weight of the fill is solely relied upon to keep in place. Because DEEP-ROCK is very flowable, the substrate should be patched or formed so as to be essentially watertight. Generally, dampen all surfaces of area to be filled to retard suction, but do not leave any standing water. |
Trenches:
If any moisture barrier is broken, repair or replace as thoroughly as possible. If necessary, place new plastic barrier under trench, overlapping with old barrier. |
Holes:
Make sure hole is watertight, so DEEP-ROCK will not flow to a lower level. |
Anchoring Bolts, Posts and Rods:
Generally, bore a hole at least twice the diameter or more of the bolt, rod or post to be set. For parking meters, posts, etc., generally allow 3"-6" more than diameter, and minimum of 1" more than diameter of bolts, etc. Anchor should hold without support once hard set, approximately 45 minutes after pouring. |
Forming:
Most grouting applications require forming. Forming must allow for continuous grout placement as well as venting to avoid air entrapment. Top edge of form must be higher than bottom edge of base plate to be grouted. Forms should be sealed and watertight. There should be a minimum of 2" around the baseplate between it and
the form. At point of placement, provide sufficient area to allow consistent continuous flow (6" minimum grout head). On the placing side, slope the form at 45° to assist grout movement and preventing trapping air. Do not use close fitting forms. All forms to come in contact with DEEP-ROCK shall be treated with an appropriate release agent. |

Large Surface Application:
DEEP-ROCK is not intended as a floor topping for concrete floors. When used for this purpose, it must be used greater than 3/8" thick and must be used with DEPENDABLE WHITE LATEX LIQUID as a bonding additive.
|
|
Mixing
|
Mix in small quantities until accustomed to fast setting time.
NOTE: DEEP ROCK has no natural adhesion. It creates a mechanical bond through weight and expansion.
DEPENDABLE WHITE LATEX LIQUID may be used to provide some adhesion, increase water resistance and flexural strength, and/or retard expansion where necessary. In exterior (sealed) application, the addition of latex is also recommended. |
DEEP FILLS:
Mix DEEP-ROCK with cool clean water, at a ratio of 5 lbs. of powder to 1 quart (4 lbs.) or less of water (50 lbs. to 2 1/2 gallons). Less water may be used, but never add more water than recommended. To avoid lumps, stir while adding powder into water. Properly mixed, DEEP-ROCK will pour like milk and set within one hour. |
MORTAR and VERTICAL APPLICATION:
A thicker mortar mix for wall and other vertical application or mortar consistency to avoid slumping from gravity until set can be achieved by reducing the water ratio to 1 quart liquid to 8 lbs. powder. |
LARGE SURFACE APPLICATION and RETARDING EXPANSION:
Where bonding is required for thinner surface toppings (greater than 3/8" deep) or where retarding expansion is desired, such as some vertical applications, DEEP-ROCK should be mixed with DEPENDABLE WHITE LATEX LIQUID. This will cause a purplish discoloration, which will disappear when dry.

|
|
POURING:
Pour mixture into cavity or hole and allow to settle to a smooth, even surface. Use a screed or straight edge if necessary to level. Slight product expansion through setting may leave a slightly raised area to be struck off (scraped) level before fully hardened. DEEP-ROCK sets hard enough for foot traffic in about 60 minutes and is ready for heavy traffic in about 90 minutes. DEEP-ROCK should not be sealed, painted or covered for 48 hours. |
GROUTING:
Grouting creates the link to transfer loads from structures and machinery to the foundation. DEEP-ROCK will completely fill the void or space under the machinery, expanding as it sets to lock the piece to be anchored in place. |
WALLS:
Use a trowel or putty knife to force the DEEP-ROCK into the wall making sure there are no voids. A form may be required to hold the material in place until the DEEP-ROCK achieves initial set to avoid sag or slump. |
EXTERIOR:
DEEP-ROCK should be sealed from contact with water when used outside. It may be covered with any good quality exterior paint or deck enamel when used outside or on exposed traffic areas indoor.
|
|
|
|
Where excessive hydrostatic pressure or extreme moisture conditions exist
Where surface or ambient temperature falls to or below 45°F within 24 hours before or after installation
Over wood floors
Exterior application without proper sealing
As a surface topping without latex bonding agent and/or less than 3/8" thick.
