KeedeLath HC is suitable for reinforcing self-leveling underlayment installations over substrates that may lack dimensional stability due to: variations in the coefficient of thermal expansion; cracked or compromised substrates that may be subject to movement; substrates subject to deflection and rolled dynamic loads.
1. Prime substrates per respective data sheets
2. Mechanically fasten KeedeLath HC to the substrate (to avoid the material floating or protruding above the subsequent underlayment/mortar installation.
Concrete or Gypsum:
Properly prepare the concrete or gypsum per the underlayment data sheet. Prime the concrete\gypsum as required. When primer is dry, follow instructions below to install KeedeLath HC
Holey Board:
Ensure suitable Holey Board is untilized (contact Technical Services). Install Holey Board into adhesive or thin application of underlayment (as an adhesive) and secure with weight until the adhesive is dry. Install the Keedelath HC only on well bonded Holey Board and utilize staples to mechanically fasten the KeedeLath to the Holey Board.
Plywood Preparation:
KeedeLath HC is to be applied over exterior grade plywood or OSB only. Plywood must be installed according to the manufacturer guidelines. It must be structurally sound and built to code with a joint of 3/16” left between the sheets as well as along walls, doors etc. allowing for expansion. Tape expansion joints with duct tape prior to the lath installation.
The plywood must be cleaned of any debris, dust, paint, oils or other bond breakers. Prime wood substrate with Dependable Primer A or equivalent. Follow the primer’s latest technical data sheet for instructions.
Install KeedeLath HC
Roll out KeedeLath HC and cut accordingly with furred face down on properly primed surface to ensure minimal surface contact with the substrate. Overlap KeedeLath HC sides up to 2 inches one over the other. Pull Keedelath HC tight to ensure that lath will not protrude above underlayment\mortar installation. Mechanically fasten (staple) the lath down with 4-6” of spacing in the center and 2-4 inch spacing along the overlapped seam and perimeter.
Applying Self-Leveler:
• Prepare the self-leveling products according to the directions specified by the manufacturer and pour or pump at a thickness which entirely covers the lath
• Allow the self-leveler to cure according to manufacturer instructions prior to proceeding with installation.
Mortar Application:
Roll out KeedeLath and cut accordingly. Place furred side down and butt the lath edges do not overlap. Staple the lath every 4-6 inches in the center and every 2-4 inches along the seams and perimeter.
Applying Mortar:
Spread the mortar into the lath with a flat side of the trowel. Follow with the notched side of the trowel to achieve the recommended coverage and install the floor covering. If wood substrate is not level follow the two step mortar application
1. Apply scratch coat covering the lath and allow to dry according to manufacturer instructions.
2. Apply next coat with notched trowel and lay the floor covering.
